Background: The African Institute for Health and Development (AIHD) is a non‐profit, Non‐Governmental Organization (NGO) established in June 2004 in Nairobi, Kenya by a group of accomplished African researchers and academicians. Job summary: The AIHD is seeking to recruit a Finance Manager who will be responsible for the financial management in accordance with the AIHD’s standards and support programme/project implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and support for all project financial management areas including, accounting, payments, reporting systems and procedures.
  • Ensures all activities related to financial management are carried out in conformance with policies and procedures established by the AIHD and the donors.
  • Coordinates with related programme staff to ensure that project budgets, accounting, and fiscal control procedures are implemented effectively.
  • Review and approve the termination payment for all short-term staff and field officers.
  • Oversees the monitoring and review of subaward financial reports to ensure compliance with subaward budgets and AIHD policies.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory institutions, consultants, management, and staff.
  • Keeps abreast with the latest trends in financial accounting and mentor staff.
  • Provides support to the internal and external audit functions.
  • Maintain overall budget control and monitor cash flows.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide regular financial analysis and reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field from recognized institution is required.
  • Must be a holder of CPA-K.
  • Knowledge in generally accepted accounting, budgeting, and fiscal control principles.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in developing and managing large budgets.
  • Relevant skills in automated accounting software systems and database spreadsheets.
  • Experience building capacity in financial management of community-based organizations and implementing partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relations with NGO partners, community-based organizations, and international donor agencies.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities in financial management expertise.
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume workflow.
  • Relevant computer software skills and familiarity with accounting software (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience establishing and maintaining good relationships with a wide variety of professionals and organizations.
  • At least seven (7) years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, including overseeing the finance and operations of equally large and complex projects in a humanitarian/NGO context.

Job Summary: The AIHD is looking for a public relations and communications intern to organize and oversee communication activities and ensure effective communication with partners, media, and the public in general. The public relations and communications intern will support internal and external communication strategies, write, and disseminate publicity material, respond to inquiries from the media and public in general. S/he should be able to think creatively and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be confident in your public speaking and project management abilities.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintaining and updating information on the organization’s website including programme updates.
  • Develop public relations campaigns and media relations strategies
  • Managing and updating information on the AIHD’s social media platforms: Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, etc.
  • Track media coverage and follow industry trends in health and development discourse.
  • Documenting events and program activities through photography and videography.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field (Communications, Media Studies, Public Relations, Journalism, etc.).
  • At least two years' experience undertaking coordination and communication related functions including on social media.
  • Background in researching, writing, and editing publications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literate with capability in email, MS office, infographics and related business and communication tools.
  • Significant ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to adapt work plans flexibly depending on external opportunities.

Job summary: The AIHD is seeking to recruit an Administration/HR Officer to support the Administration/Human Resources Department. The administration/HR Officer will support the day-to-day activities of our Human Resources Department. The HR& Admin Officer will act as the point of contact for all employees, providing administrative support and managing queries. S/he will process employee data, update company policies, and assist in the hiring process. Ultimately, s/he should be able to ensure our administrative activities run smoothly on a daily and long-term basis.

Responsibilities

  • ·Receiving and processing communication channels, including email and telephone.
  • ·Ensure functionality of necessary office equipment and requisitioning new equipment and supplies as needed.
  • ·Support in organizing events both internal and external, including ordering materials and requisitioning meeting spaces.

  • ·Familiarity with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • ·Basic knowledge of labor legislation.
  • Experience using spreadsheets.
  • Experience in Administration/Human Resource will be an added advantage.

Job summary: The AIHD is seeking to recruit a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer who will lead the design, implementation, and operation of M&E systems from project initiation to closeout. S/he will oversee the monitoring, evaluation, analytics, and reporting of performance, providing regular project reports as required. S/he will conduct regular project data analysis and identify methods to use results for programme improvement.

Responsibilities

The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer’s primary responsibilities will include:

  • Support the development of the M&E Plan for projects, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing M&E and/ performance monitoring plans.
  • Lead role in overseeing data collection, collation, storage, analysis, and reporting while ensuring high quality and audit worthy data.
  • Responsible for supporting the preparation and review of programme reports in collaboration with programme staff.
  • Manage research activities and ensure outcomes and lessons learned are integrated into the project and shared with relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide training and mentoring to partners and staff to ensure the implementation of strong M&E systems.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, demographics, public policy, social sciences, economics, monitoring and evaluation or related field. Post graduate certificate on M&E or higher will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of six years of professional experience in an M&E position responsible for implementing M&E activities on international development projects.
  • Knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed method, and impact surveys) and data collection and analysis methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience of statistical packages and/ or data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, CSPro, STATA, NVivo, Atlas.ti, Open Data Kit (ODK), Excel etc) and advanced computer skills (word-processing, spread sheets, and databases) are a must.
  • Experience in strategic planning and performance measurement, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing M&E and/ performance monitoring plans.
  • Proven success in designing, implementing and operating project M&E systems from project initiation to closeout stages.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability through previous experience with data quality assessments and oversight, developing and refining data collection tools and analyzing data, and managing and providing ongoing training to M&E field officers and/or subgrantees.
  • Experience in planning and managing surveys and gender-related analysis.
