The Export Promotion Council (EPC) was privileged to attend the 26th Uganda International Trade Fair (UGITF) 2018 on 2-10 October 2018. The Trade fair’s theme was “Enhancing Value Addition through Industrialization”.

The 26th UGITF was so far the largest exhibition in Uganda organized by the Uganda Manufacturers’ Association (UMA) at the UMA’s show grounds in Lugogo, Kampala. The trade fair offered an international marketing platform for multi-sectoral goods and services from within and outside the East African region and attracted exhibitors from over 20 countries. The UGITF dwelt on forging partnerships and creating trade opportunities between Kenya and Uganda.
Kenya’s participation in the 26th UGITF 2018 exposed its companies and enterprises to Uganda’s fast-growing market, the East African Community and the COMESA region. The Export Promotion Council involved other stakeholders and marketing agencies such as State Department for Trade, Ministry of foreign Affairs, KAM, KEPSA, Ken Invest and Brand Kenya in coordinating Kenya’s participation in the 26th Uganda International Trade Fair. 11 enterprises displayed products and services at the EPC pavilion, namely; Kenya Tea Packers Limited (KETEPA), Trufoods, Spa Bass, Veronica, Kitui Aloe, Stella Ventures, Swara African, Rita Kemigisha and Navuga Barbara.

The Council’s objective in the participation was to consolidate Kenya’s market share and to utilize its presence in the Ugandan market considering that Uganda’s exports to Kenya exceeded Kenya’s exports to Uganda in 2018.  Participating companies were able to increase their visibility in the Ugandan and global market, not only through event cataloguing but also through featuring in Ugandan print and electronic media.
Products showcased included; processed foods and beverages, personal hygiene products, beauty and health care products, consumer and household chemicals, engineering and construction services,  paper and paper products, packaging, textiles and garments,  crop protection and animal health products, motor vehicle accessories, farm inputs,  construction materials (iron sheets, paints, etc.),  dairy and meat products, furniture, footwear, Services- ICT, medical, education, transportation, banking, insurance, security, hospitality, engineering, construction and other professional consultancy services.
The Export Promotion Councils presence in the UGITF was also intended to showcase Kenya and highlight the Big Four Agenda investment opportunities in manufacturing, food security, housing and health care. The participating companies under the EPC Pavilion had an opportunity to enhance their corporate brand image, interact and network with the business community through prior arranged Business to Business (B2B) meetings.
